Types of Playable Careeers and Making playable careers
February 22, 2020 at 8:11 amThere’s been a lot of talk about careers over the last couple of days. But to be specific, if playable careers are possible what kind would everyone want to see?
What if there was a type of program like the CAW where you could mod any career to be playable? But in order for it to be playable it would have to require paras to do tasks or make something. I’m not sure how it’d work it’s just an idea that popped up in my head, but was thinking there could be a preset list of features players could pick from, which would include and would allow you to set the following:
Career name and sub jobs
Tasks/duties/products can be made and implemented
Days/Times of operations
The number of paras
Number of points/skills it takes to reach a promotion
Set skills that would increase para’s skills setting it per object/itemCareers I hope for for:
Making your own magazine/newspaper company
-hire writers,photographer,models,
-magazines/newspapers becoming an additional object paras read that builds skill
-make different topics of magazines/newspapersDetective/Lawyer
-live court cases with jury and judge in courtroomFashion designer
-make runway shows and pick venue
-create a clothing line
-hire modelsUpdate Ideas
I originally had this as a reply to but thought to add it as a part of the post as well
I think it’d be cool if some of the careers could have more challenges, we could set the setting on how careers would work such as:add more work related scenarios (like scenarios we have to play through by asking and answering a series of questions not too many but enough to make it interesting. Which would be great for actor musician careers, it could lead into interact with fans or invite fans on stage or something along those lines.)
Task based where you’d click a series of task to do around the office you have to complete before the day is finished.
Autonomous the para does their job their way
Or performance based
mini games within a career especially if it something engineer related it could be one of those puzzles with circuits or pipes we have to solve in 1 min or a matching game or some sort. You’d have to click at least two or three options, or have it all mixed it up randomly each day. There could also be the option of opting out of this as well.

I love that idea. I would like to see careers that you could also practice from in the home. Like bed and break fast owner, farmer, animal breeder, owner of a homeless shelter. The possibilities are endless if it would be possible to make a career out of any object or activity possible around the home.

I’m really hoping for the “Create-A-Job” type thing. As for careers I’d like:
Teaching
– At all levels
– Can choose style, eg. practical, lecture, interactive etc.
– For younger years, you can be asked for advice.Politics
– Can actually affect the world, e.g lower/increase bills, public transport amountHotel/Hostel etc. owner
– Can rent out rooms and receive ratings based on price, quality etc.
– Deal with troublesome clients
– Put out adverts and marketingMusician
– Be part of a band or go soloPosted February 23, 2020 at 1:37 pm -
i second the bed-and-breakfast idea, that sounds like so much fun! and along the lines of homeless shelter, maybe someone who fosters pets or runs an animal shelter? i would love to see object-based or skill-based careers as well. one example i thought of was maybe someone who is really good at growing houseplants could have a nursery and sell their plants, or alternately a gardener with a small greenhouse who could sell their produce at a produce stall in their own yard.

i think that it would be cool to have an “influencer” or social media celebrity. there is already something similar in the sims but it’s not very interactive.

pet boarding
dog walker
veterinarianbaby sitter

When I played Sims 3 I would always end up doing something other than a job even though I didn’t mean to. Like getting by on gardening. That seemed more engaging than going to work. So something like that?
The most important thing for careers, I think, is that they feel different from each other. So varying hours, skills, etc. But if I could have anything I wanted, & I’m sure someone has said this before, this is my first post here, but each career be playable, but still feel different. And really make choices matter, not just click so many times to get a certain result. Or only have that on one career for variety purposes.

If they do include “influencer” it would be so cute if they added option “meet and greet” lol

I like the idea of being able to sell your own homemade items or produce. It would also be awesome to have the ability of a full fledged farm …. milk the cows/goats, sell the milk, harvest eggs and sell them (or use them to cook), sell crops or use them to cook or supply a restaurant……

This would be nice. It would almost be like a mini-game within the game – managing and growing the farm.

I would love to go to work with my parafolk! What would be cool too is if they could start a business and it could be a family business passed through generations.

Omg this is a good idea . I like that . I think we never saw that kind of work . Thank you

These are all cool ideas, but I’d like there to be rabbit hole careers too. What if I have two working adults and a kid at school at the same time, all of which the game requires I manage directly? Am I the only one who likes to have breaks from my characters to focus on some of the others? Maybe it would be possible to toggle whose work/school experience to manage at the start of each day? Like the “Join”/”Send Alone” options for careers in The Sims 4 Get to Work, except I’m assuming since this is open world we don’t want to “Join” them in a separate location to work. But I could “Send Alone” some of my parafolk for the day. Does that make sense?

This makes a lot of sense to me. I also don’t like to follow every para to work/school every time, but I’d like a way to control what they are doing (building a skill, meeting co-workers, etc.).

Something I’ve been dying for but never seen in any games like this before is well developed careers centred around performance. Previously the most I’ve seen in a game like this is an actor or musician career, theres never a dancer or musical theatre/stage actor or anything like that which is strange when you consider how massive those industries are. On top of that theres never any skills that would properly back up careers like that: you can’t work on a characters (eg.) ballet or gymnastics skill. This is something I really want to see reflected in this game if possible!

I would like to see some other types of careers like hair stylist, barber, nail tech, mechanic etc and things like that… just something different

It would be so awesome if we are given the option to form a band/vocal group/dance group/solo act. And to show off their talent at paid venues or free open mics or even to perform in public places such as parks and beaches.
?? really hope to see this in the game.

Criminal (Criminal Mastermind to expand underground business: Vehicle Thievery and Counterfeit Product) – the gameplay was management to gain underground reputation and stealth game to retrieve or deliver the product to client while avoiding the authorities/police and rival criminal organization. )

I think it would be cool, though perhaps too complex, to choose whether you want the career to be a rabbit hole or not. Maybe that would mean that there would be less total careers, but I think the freedom to decide whether you want to play the career or not would be nice.
Or choose which careers are rabbit holes and which are playable. Or maybe you start out with many careers that are rabbit holes, but as the game develops, more careers become playable.
I appreciate your list of careers because its easy to forget the different possible careers.

All these ideas and suggestions are amazing. I would love to be a interior designer and redecorate the npc’s homes. Even an architect and build their homes for them.

I personally prefer rabbit hole careers, so those are probably the only ones I’d play for the most part. But that said, I think there are some great possiblities for playable careers, especially since Paralives will have an open world.
Waiter/waitress/chef-Since we know we’ll have restraunts
Life saver-If we get public pools.
Teacher/Principal/Daycare worker-Since we know we’ll have schools.
Architect-We could go around town building homes.
Cashier/store associate-Shops are confirmed.
Real estate agent-We could go around town showing off empty homes.
Breeder-For any type of pet.
Bus driver-I think the team is considering school buses.
These are just a few which I think could work well for the game if they add playable careers.

In relation to CAW, this will definitely be useful if you have your own business… You can create your own options for employees, and decide how much the salary would be. Salary, of course, will be deducted from your profits for the day, or if insufficient, from your family fund. Paid leaves would be something I want to see (mandated by Paralaw perhaps).
Jobs in CAW can be published on either the newspaper or job hunting website that can be accessed via smartphone or computer. This way, your employees in the business will not be NPC but other Parafolk. If in cases where the other player is not online or vice versa, their/your character can become NPC for the meantime.

I hope if we can make our own businesses we can have a pay day that’s once a week instead of every day like in the sims i guess for the sake of being different, but, also i think it could also make room for realistic in game prices so money isn’t dwindling as fast either. For instance we pick a day of the week for everyone to be paid and each time it’d deposit money into the household fund.
