School, Skills and Careers
Posted by sailordeco on July 16, 2019 at 5:41 pmSo, we were discussing about careers on discord today and we came up with some nice ideias! The general ideia is that you would need some skills to apply to jobs. You could develop your skills during school – maybe you could choose what skills to develop by studying harder in some subjects or by enrolling at some after-classes activities idk. We even talked about the possibility of adding university education, for developing more skills and getting better jobs.
The ideia is that every job would need different skills, so your character could only be accepted if they had those skills. Some jobs, of course, would need more skill levels than others. Or maybe they could even start in a high position if they already had high-level skills!
This would make schools and educations feel a lot less pointless and a lot more realistic!

For, schools, it would be nice to see different types of schools like public, private, arts, etc. Some could even cost more than others.
For careers, I really hope the game has a lot of traditional careers. Things like construction worker, garbageman, teacher, lawyer, fireman, police officer, accountant. I enjoy simple careers.

And not only add skills by going to school (choosing majors), self learning with books, online courses or just browsing the web should also be possible (to a certain degree). Maybe not for all skills, no hospital would hire a self-thought doctor, but self-learned programmers are not that uncommon at all.

Yeah, I mean… for sure you should be able to self learn skills too! I only mentioned schools and uni because the ideia is make education have an objective, but I’m hoping you’ll be able to develop skills by a lot of different methods.

In S1 and I think in S2 not all jobs was available all the time. In the S4 the game play in this matter is not challenging at all. I would love to see that here. Only a certain amount of jobs must be available on a weekly basis. This will make game play challenging and our para will have to out source income till they find a job or the job of their dreams. Also I would love the newspaper back. What do you think?

I think there should be job interviews too. Which will mean that there will be a chance that Parafolk do not get a job and they will have to keep looking and trying. Whether or not they land the job could depend on skillset, education and mood, but also personality and relationship with the interviewer. They would have to wait to receive a definite yes or no, may have to do more than one interview etc.
And what about competition? Multiple Paras can be competing for the same job. Just to make the job hunt more challenging and realistic. The trick would be to make all this possible without it getting to tedious or boring. Maybe there should be an option for “elaborate careers” or just “click you have the job careers”. So you decide when and for which Para you want this.

Star HubkinAugust 6, 2020 at 12:35 amLoyalty BadgeFriendship BadgeAppreciation BadgeTrendsetter BadgeHub Points15132Yes bring the newspapers back! we need more ways to find employment aside from the computer or phone. It’d be nice to have a job bulletin around town for those looking for odd one time jobs or maybe it could lead to a permanent one,or word of mouth jobs could get paras hired too if they knew a para who has connections.
I agree with what Breedmond said it shouldn’t be easy to find a job and having interviews would be really nice feature to see, especially if there’s chance cards to direct how the interview could go, for example using ‘if situation questions and we’d be asked to choose a response for’.

Star HubkinAugust 5, 2020 at 12:13 amPicture PerfectLoyalty BadgeFriendship BadgeAppreciation BadgeTrendsetter BadgeHub Points7881We don’t know what they use for a system and if we have skill levels but I really like this idea. When the paras already can get skills to a higher level in school.

Star HubkinAugust 6, 2020 at 12:47 amLoyalty BadgeFriendship BadgeAppreciation BadgeTrendsetter BadgeHub Points15132I like these ideas and I like the idea of inheriting skills bc i can see it working for talents that gets passed on to children, for example a family who’s always been really good singers or musicians for example. But it’d be nice if they did inherit skills it wouldn’t always mean they’d be good at it, while some paras they’d naturally be good at it.
I hope we can get online classes paras can take in place of physical university to build up skills further. Internships would be nice too!
