Pregnancy and babies should definitely have more detail be more of a challenge.
1. Doctor’s appointments. Your para can receive ultrasound pictures. If you choose to know the gender they could get a little envelope and when they open it either pink or blue confetti can pop out.
2. Gender reveal parties and baby showers. At these events your paras can receive gifts. (Maybe you can even make a registry and your guest will only buy what you put on the registry?)
3. Your para and baby should have to stay at the hospital for a few days after delivery. Family and friends should be able to come visit and they can bring toys for the baby.
4. Not sure if the game will have free health care, but if it doesn’t the hospital bill should be realistic. You should have to pay for all the babies shots and an epidural if you get one.
5. There could be a possibility that your para needs a C-Section and it’ll take longer for them to heal and leave the hospital
6. You should be able to buy formula, a breast pump, diapers, wipes, etc.
7. A carseat should be required if your para travels with the baby.
8. Babies should be able to have tummy time and move around in walkers when they get old enough.
9. Babies should have to go to the doctor occasionally for check ups
10. Maternity pictures!!!!
I know most, if not all, of this will have to be added into the game after release, but I’m just throwing some ideas out there.amandac replied 3 years, 4 months ago 9 Members · 18 Replies -

I like these ideas 🙂 – except for paying for health care. That is an American problem that is pretty much specific to your country, and fans are from all over. Alex is in Canada where they have free health care so I can see this being the case for the game. This is not to diminish your other ideas though which I like a lot! If you want to see more ideas on this topic see this recent thread.

same, i live in a country where there is free healthcare, i don’t want to have to pay for it or for us to be constantly reminded about America’s failing healthcare system 🙁

I totally understand where you’re coming from which is why I said I wasn’t sure. I know a lot of people in the discord server were asking for something like that to be toggle-able because they want more of a challenge or because it’s more realistic for their lives. The devs never confirmed anything, so I put that idea in just in case.

I think a lot of these are great. Some might be a bit unnecessary, like the epidural, shots, and c-section deliveries (though it would be great if these actually make it in), but overall I like a lot of these idea.
The responses to a thread I made yesterday reminded me that we’ll need a balance of things taking place over multiple days relating to the Parafolks lifespan. I understand that we all want things to take place over realistic amounts of time, but as game players, we also don’t want to miss out on too much of our parafolks lives. So it might be better if they don’t have to stay at the hospital too long after delivering a baby. Perhaps some deliveries will be easier on the mother and she can go home the next day, but if she has a difficult delivery it could take a few days. I hope we’ll get some more insight on how long a Para’s lifespan is so we can more acculturate think about things like this, but overall I love these ideas and hope they make it into the game.

I wouldn’t mind having hospitals give bills it’d add another challenge as far as managing money to the game. But I’m also for a toggle on/off feature for those who want something to mimic in the game how their countries operate.

I had a thought and wanted some community feedback on the matter. What do people think of making fertility somewhat realistic? Aka, the younger a Para is in her adult life, the easier it is for her to conceive, but as she gets older, it becomes a bit more difficult. Is this gameplay people would be interested in, or nah? Personally I think it would be interesting, but I could totally do without it, especially for the initial release. I could easily see people not liking it if they feel they need to rush to have Parakids because an actual biological clock is ticking. But I also know a lot of people would like a more realistic pregnancy experience.

@Bailey I personally wouldn’t get anything out of it in regular gameplay and it would probably impede my plans to have obscene numbers of children. No one would be able to do 100 baby challenges either. I think it is something some people will want, but many people will not. If the devs ever decided to allow script mods though I can see someone modding stuff like this.Posted April 28, 2020 at 11:49 pm -
@Sweetchilli Yeah, I get that. I didn’t really think about challenges since I don’t do those, but that’s good reasoning as well. I figured it would be something most people wouldn’t want, or at least would want to be optional if it ever made it into the game.

[quote quote=8515]@Bailey I like the idea of a para not getting pregnant on every single try but it shouldn’t be just for older paras. Young paras could (not should) have a hard time getting pregnant as well.

@Amandac Yeah, I agree on that too. I’ve even heard suggestions on some Paras not being able to conceive at all (possibly as a setting in the paramaker). I think that would make sense too since it is a real struggle that people have.

Yeah I’d agree I’m not really interested in the health bill side of it….though I don’t see why something like that couldn’t be a mod.
Personally I’m not super interested in detailed pregnancies…like I can imagine there’d be a novelty to it the first few times but then I’ll probably just end up wanting them to just pop out at home like in the sims. I think it could get annoying if the features you mentioned weren’t optional. (and that not doing it would negatively affect your baby)
I can appreciate that this is something a lot of people would be interested in though.

I was thinking last night how ultrasounds could function. Using the example in the OP, I was thinking maybe after the process is over a message could pop up on the screen for the player to choose what information they want.
1. See # of babies and gender(s)
2. See # of babies only
3. Leave as a surprise
If option 1 is chosen, the mother would get the envelope with a messaging listing how many babies she’s pregnant with and what the genders are. With 2, you could only see the number of babies. 3 you wouldn’t see anything and it would be left as a surprise. Of course, if you chose 3 and changed your mind later, you could call the doctor and ask for the results.
I think that would be cool. Anyone else have ideas?

It might be cute to see expecting Paras announce the pregnancy to their other family members (e.g. their husband, the coming baby’s older siblings, the grandparents). I’ve seen some pretty creative announcements in real life (from buying the first-time father a “best dad ever” T-shirt to putting an actual bun in an oven and waiting for the father to catch on). I don’t know how specific kinds of announcements would look in game, but I thought I’d pitch the idea nonetheless.

I like being surprised by the game but it would be nice to have the option to know in order to start decorating the nursery. I would probably use this feature more often if it came with a gender reveal party.

I was thinking today that I think it would be cool if there were different “milestones” for pregnancies. Now obviously we don’t know how long pregnancy will last (personally, I hope it can be customized), but I think it would be interesting if more changes occurred as the pregnancy progressed.
For simplicity, I think pregnancy could functioned on a 3 stage system to correlate to the trimesters. The system would have to change based on how long the player sets pregnancies meaning players can decide it they want things to last longer or shorter.
Stage 1- 1st trimester. <font face=”inherit”>Para finds out she’s pregnant. Small physical changes, like the early baby bump. Many emotional responses to the </font>pregnancy<font face=”inherit”> based on the Para’s personality</font><font face=”inherit”>. And the very end of the trimester, the Para can get an </font>ultrasound<font face=”inherit”> to find out the gender and will be able to do a gender reveal. Maybe she could start thinking about baby names.</font>
Stage 2-2nd trimester. The ‘crazy’ stage. A noticeable baby bump starts to grow. The mother can experience cravings, sore feet, morning sickness, fatigue, wacky emotions, and other bodily changes. Here is where the mother Para will want to start preparing for the baby; buying clothes and wanting to decorate a nursery.
Stage 3-3rd trimester-Things calm down a bit. The Symptoms continue, but slow down so the player can have the Para prepare for childbirth. The very last day of the pregnancy will be the due date, and the Para could get more anxious or excited leading up to the big day depending on their personality.
Of course this is just an idea I had in my head. It could be totally different, but I do still think the idea of milestones would be nice. But what does everyone think? Would anyone else like to see pregnancy milestones, or should every ‘stage’ of the pregnancy be the same?

I would really like to see something like this. i don’t like that in sims its an announcement the lady throws up a couple times then within 3 days the babies arrived lol.
Milestones would be a nice feature to have in gameplay not just for storytelling but visually satisfying for having complex paras in general 🙂
I’d like if some pregnancy paras could gain extra baby weight during the pregnancy while other might not, it could be at random. So even after they’ve had their baby they’d have to exercise to get their original bodies back.

It would also be nice if the paras react accordingly when the pregnant para announces her pregnancy: happy (family/friends), jealous (if other para can’t conceive), angry (an ex), etc. Also, they should only be able to “announce pregnancy” once to each para. The other paras should congratulate them immediately with a pat on the back, hug, kiss on the cheek, etc. (according to their relationship level).
