As the way one walks can greatly influence their character, having various different walk styles would be nice to have.

Mew in the Discord server found a great video to demonstrate how people really do have different walk styles, even if they’re more subtle.

  • I’m OK with just one “normal/regular” walk style. I actually hate the different ones they have in TS4. They are too goofy for me.

  • I agree with Fern and Amandac. I like different walk styles, but I don’t like the ones from TS4. They should be more subtle. Also the walk styles should not be permanent. The way a Para walks should depend on their mood and/or physical condition at that moment or a period of time. It is strange to have a Para who always walks perky or always sleepy.

  • I agree that paras should have a different walk style depending on their mood, i think it’d be cute if female paras could swing their hips a shash shay when they wore dresses with high heels or just high heels.`
Walk styles for those who are sleepy in the mornings, walk styles for those who are tired, slower walk styles for the elderly,

  • I think we need differing walk styles to give the paras character, but I don’t think they should be as over-exaggerated as they are in the sims. There could be default walk styles, and variations based off of different factors.
For example, what if there was a posture system/option? So either you can choose a characters posture, or you can have certain interactions that make a Para’s posture better/worse. Walk style could also be affected by the activity the Para is doing. Say if they’re walking to a business meeting they might walk standing straight and proper, and if they’re out with their friends they might walk more casually and swing their arms more.

  • I like the above ideas. Being pigeon-toed or slue-footed could also be an option.

  • Yeah I agree, the Sims 4 walking animations were way to exaggerated. I just prefer the normal walking animation style, but pigeon-toed or slue-footed could be an idea that would be okay, or they could walk how they feel, like if they are sad their shoulders are more down, but not too much to where they or overly analyzed. Otherwise, I think adding other walking animation would just be too much.

  • I like the idea of choosing your Paras posture. Like whether they walk straight with their head held high, or walk a little hunched and reserved looking. It might be a little difficult, but I think a slider would be the best way to implement that, especially in a way for the player to visually see the difference.

I really dislike the idea of a permanent walking style though, b/c they’d have to create a lot of options to actually give the Parafolk enough of a chance to feel unique. I hated the walk styles in S4 because it turns your sims into a cartoonish stereotype, plus there aren’t even many, which further contributes to your sim not feeling unique for using it.

If every Parafolk looks special....nobody does.

  • I agree with what everyone’s saying that walk styles should be mood/situation specific. I have used walk styles in ts4 before but I have to agree that those were a bad idea. Keep it true to how they’re feeling!

  • Personally I don’t really like walk styles in the Sims 4. They just add a level of goofy energy that I don’t like.

I do like wacky things happening in life sim games but I just don’t like the walk styles. They’re repetitive and feel too “slap sticky” for my liking.

If we do get them I’d like an option in the game settings to toggle them off. (Unless they’re more subtle)

I agree if walk styles are a thing they should be attached to emotions and subtle if they are too obvious it just looks cartoonish which doesn’t always look the best.
