Parafolk life spans
May 13, 2021 at 8:59 pmThis is something I noticed being discussed in the official reddit for a few days so I thought I’d make a discussion here about it.
Basically it seems everyone has different feelings on how long Paras should stay in their life stages/ages. Some want longer stages, but others believe it should be shorter so as not to be too boring. I’ve noticed that it is very common to suggest life stage spans based on “that game franchise”, so it’ll be something like babies are babies for a week, toddlers are toddlers for 2 weeks, and so on and so forth. Meanwhile others say all stages should last a full in game year and Parafolk would age on their birthday (but the player should be able to do it manually whenever they want).
Me personally, I would LOVE if Parafolk stayed in each stage for a full year and we could watch them slowly grow throughout the year before their birthday. This to me could work with both gradual aging and a stage aging system (whatever the team ends up doing). The best course I think would be a customizable aging system where the player could choose how long everything lasted by days, weeks, months, or years.
What do you guys think? How long do you think Paras should live in each stage? What would you make it if it were up to you?

I usually play on long or keep resetting them (which is annoying) so they don’t age up so quickly. However, the newborn stage was not fun in TS2 with bottles, dirty diapers, and the baby all over the floor. If not done correctly, I would want to make that stage shorter. I also hope time moves a little slower. I think the option to play long/short by stage is a great compromise.

Having the ability to customise the length of life stages would be really cool. I’d like to add that I’d really really like there to be a freeze aging setting as well. I’m not sure if I’d like a longer or shorter default. I do want gradual aging, and if they go with that (or gradual aging combined with stages as you said, I’d be pretty okay with that) then it needs to happen slowly or you’d be seeing paras rapidly becoming taller over the course of a day. That would be pretty weird.
