What are some career choices everyone wants for their Parafolk?
I’d love to see the basic options like:
Business rep, police officer, teacher, doctor, chef, etc.

But I’d also love to see some lower-paid and or less represented jobs like:
Cleaner, construction worker, firefighter, military, news reporter, etc.

    Or even part-time jobs like:
    Baby-sitter, tutor, dog-walker, retail worker, waitress/waiter, etc.

What would you guys like to see most?

As jobs will now most likely be rabbitholes, I would like to see work from home jobs In the future. Via computer and telephone. Or farming, sewing, cooking and selling food out of the home.

I think careers could be taken in a slightly different direction than the sims. How I think this could be accomplished in linking up education and skills to these careers. This could even be done well by the creation of a “resume” that automatically populates. I made another entry about skills here > https://paraliveshub.com/forum/topic/more-skills-or-paras/

I also think they should go to actual places with names to work (if applicable) not just pick up a phone and boom you career-ing (@ sims 4). I personally, think most careers should be rabbit-hole based. Going to work is almost a break for you to think about what else you want to do for your parafolk. Having the occasional chance card/dilemma would be great additions to careers.

I don’t imagine they could do all of these, but here are some career ideas to include:

City Hall – City hall jobs don’t pay well, but they get many holidays, good retirement benefits, and are (for the most part) stable jobs. Little to no risk of being fired. High potential for facing corruption.
    *Politician
Unlike “working up the ladder” you would campaign (build relationships with key parafolk) to win elections. That being said, you have to earn this career and it is best that this is not your first career.
    *Lawyer/Judge (requires college education)
    *Police
    *Fire Fighter
*Teacher (requires high skillset in subject through college education)
Based on skillset, you could be a math, science, literature, or physical education teacher.
    *Sanitation Worker (part-time)

Corporation ABC – instead of just a “business” job, I think it would be cool to make it more realistic. Working for Corporation ABC you’ll have many hours, higher than average pay, and a high chance of facing corruption aka decision making opportunities. You also have a chance of earning “stock options” resulting in more pay. Not a stable job, chance for getting fired/laid-off.
    *Accountant (from Book-keeper to CFO)
*Martketing (from Sales Intern to CEO)
*Human Resources – requires a high skill in psychology/college education (from HR rep to VP Ethics)

XYZ Labs – for the different science disciplines. All of these will a college education.
    *Chemist
    *Biologist
    *Engineer
    *Space

Paralives Health and Medical Facility – truthfully I don’t know much about the medical profession but I think there is so much room for improvement. Not everyone needs to be a doctor!
    *Doctor (requires college education)
    *Nurse
    *Psychologist (requires college education)
    *EMT

Journalism – I think this would be more interesting if your parafolk would specialize in a certain area based on the relationships they build. So basically your career is based on your writing skill and focused in these areas for example:
    *Politics
    *Sports
*Crime/Investigative – this might be a cool way to incorporate a private investigator of some kind
    *Science/Technology
    *Entertainment/Gossip

    Self-Employed
*Tutor/Coach – for para’s who have mastered a skill they can tutor other paras when requested
    *Writer – blogs, books, etc.
    *Artist
    *Photographer
*Sales – depending on collectables/craftables they could turn it into profit and open up their own store
*Nanny/Maid – takes care of the kids, takes care of the house, maybe both
*Farmer – can’t believe this is even debatable anymore, every country on the planet has farmers yet it’s like pulling teeth to get it in a sims game. Also would make a good farmers market option to sell harvestables.
*Maintenance Worker – on call to help repair parafolk’s stuff

    Food & Drink
    *Chef
    *Server (part time work)
    *Bar Tender (part time work)
*Restaurant Management – open up your own restaurant! Could be interesting combo with the farmer career.
*Brewery/Winery – open up your own brewery/winery whatever your craft may be. Could be interesting combo with farmer/scientist career.

    Real Estate
*Property Management – literally just owning a piece of property, maintaining it, and making a profit off of it. Opens up the possibility for leasing rental properties to renters, etc.
*Architect – I think in a game about building, the fact that we don’t have architects/designers is silly. It’s built into the game. Just do it.
*Construction Worker – a rabbit hole for “off-site construction work”

Entertainment – I think it would be interesting to book an agency or management company and base your success on your choices/skill level and level of fame:
*Comedian – book live gigs at various bars, restaurants
*Professional Athlete – join a sports team; would be cool if we got a specific paralives sport or real life sports like basketball/soccer instead of just “athlete career”
*Actor – relies heavily on the agency (honestly a similar approach to sims 4…they did something right I guess)
    *Solo Singer
*Band (similar to the sims 3 but idk…maybe more in depth)

    Misc. Careers –
*Military – if there’s an option to go college it would be cool to combine a ROTC program/free education program for a certain amount of time in the military
*Veterinarian – if there are pets or even for farming animals
*Stylist – I think this is another no brainer…if part of the game is designing your own parafolk, why shouldn’t that easily fit right into the game as a stylist career?
*University Professor – if we get colleges/universities

What about the ability for children/ teens to be child stars?

That’s reminds me could children or preteens be able to delivery newspapers and catalogues?

There’s something for teens who are near 18 (ie: graduating high school) in at least the provincial government but I forget what’s its called. (I found it now Page)

    here are some other ideas:

doctors, firefighters, police officers having night shifts.

Education-could we separate Supply teaching from the main education business -because full time teachers have to: prepare for classes (if in high school) and mark essays, etc. Well a supply teacher unless they’re on a Long Term Assignment, only does the job of the regular teacher for at least one day. But it could be several days, or even weeks.

Could we have Office Admin be a career itself for: schools, business (Executive), medical and legal professions ?

Yeah!! More varied child roles would be really good! Being a child star sounds kinda yikes but it should still be in the game, and having a paper round or working as a waiter/barrister would be some really good realistic teen jobs.

I think children should have the ability to make money in a lot of ways, not just being famous. Newspaper deliveries, doing chores (an allowance from their parents to help with starting funds when they move out), lemonade stands, school competitions, pet sitting for neighbors, and selling baked goods door to door.

Those are just a few for children. I think teens should be able to work most part-time jobs BUT balancing work and school will make things more challenging. It would be interesting to see if this would allow teens to save for college or a new car after drivers ed.

Working as a lawyer as an active career where you’d go into a courtroom (similar to how sims 3 college interactive classes were). Where the lawyer would have plaintiffs and defendants the judge could be varied each time including the plaintiffs, defendants, jury, and court cases. Court cases being solved would work like lawyers ask the witnesses/jury and defendants questions, I think this would be interesting if there are criminals in the game that are a part of everyday life or a random act against paras in the world. Then you’d have quiz based questions to answer in helping solve the cases.

Running a newspaper press or magazine company (would also be a playable career)

Nannies would have to be interviewed for the position which would also work for your active para to be interviewed for the position and would be picked based on their skills. I also agree with @KADUKS in this regard as far as skills helping and being needed for jobs.

Auctioneer career I think this would be a good part time job, so paras would be called and asked to appear at museums where the auctions would be held, and other paras could come and bid on items. I think this could work both as a rabbithole or playable career.

    Photographer <div>
</div><div>I know this might not be possible but I’d really love to see Marine Biology become a career! Which could really tapie in well with aquariums if they’re to be in the game and maybe ocean exploration for paras. </div><div>
    </div><div> Model

Fitness trainer could work at gyms or at the park

In home doctors and nurses who would go check and treat patients in their home instead of hospitals

I would honestly like to be able to have a para hold two part time jobs at the same time or even work two jobs. Like for example a full time job (in the day) and then a part time job (at night). Maybe even have different shifts they’d be able to choose from to work. Morning, Evening, Night, Graveyard shifts.
Also with that being said I feel the jobs shouldn’t feel like you’re playing two separate games where you’d go to a playable career but then when you leave, it doesn’t affect the world or the paras around you. I don’t know how to really explain it, but all in all I hope playable careers are in the same present time as the rest of the para world.</div>

I don’t mind rabbithole careers but it would be nice to have some control of what they’re doing (build a skill, relationships, etc.) and they should not be exhausted when they come home unless they worked really, really hard that day. I also hope promotions are not automatic. For example, if I wanted to have my legal secretary stay at that level her entire life then I just wouldn’t have her do any extra activities needed for a promotion.

A college education should definitely be needed for some promotions and careers. For adults who have full-time jobs maybe taking some college courses at night (rabbithole).

My favorite careers: Lawyer, politician, teacher, secretary (legal/medical/business), doctor, business/corporate, actor/director, chef, construction worker/architect.

I think most or all careers will probably wind up being rabbit holes too. I commented on another post earlier about potential for quests in careers, but with the stipulation that it’d be hard to do that for lots of careers and balance between lots of detail and a reasonable burden for the dev team is always a point of contention. However, I think the nice thing about rabbit holes would be that it allows for a lot more variety in careers. If there’s no need to code actual workday interactions, then there’s a lot more room to have more different careers, career branches, and text prompts that will give a lot more life to careers without requiring nearly as much work for the developers.

I just got the idea from a book I have read recently, PR or Law firms would be a great addition to companies we can work for… One firm can have almost every job we can think of: Managers, assistants, board of directors, security personnel, company nurse for the empire companies, etc.

The main thing I’d like to see is a VARIETY of careers. I am fine with rabbit holes. I don’t need to go to work with my paras. There are so many jobs in the world and people switch careers all the time, and I’d like that to be a possibility in this game. I also like the idea of different shifts for different careers, and different shift options within the same career–very realistic! I’d also like to see lots of part time job options, and some “work from home” options.

Maybe I have a para who loves her career, works a normal dayshift, and then when she has kids she changes to a part time job while the kids are young. Then when her kids get older maybe she chooses a different career entirely. I also liked the post where someone said they don’t want promotions to be automatic. I’ve known some people who have worked the same job for 30+ years. Not everyone becomes the CEO of the company, or even wants to.
