So currently it’s decided (last I heard) that there won’t be an official learnable language for the game like Simlish, in favour of an Animal Crossing style speech.

What this post is about is in-game, digetic languages. Not like the UI or menus, rather the languages the Para’s speak. Your Para could speak “English”, but they could run into Para’s speaking “French” or “German” and have the opportunity to learn these languages in school or through an extracurricular opportunity such as a tutor or app etc. This would work especially well if multiple “worlds” with different cultures existed, as you could travel to different worlds which spoke different languages and have to either the basics of the language or find ways to get around the language barrier. The languages probably wouldn’t named after real languages, rather ones thought up for the game perhaps off of the world names and such.

    Thoughts?

I love this idea. If I understood you correctly, we would not be able to understand any of the languages. Not all Paras would sound the same. They would be able to communicate in the languages they learn and may or may not understand each other based on what they have learned. It would be cool if Paras would try to communicate with sound language when they speak different languages with the chance of miscommunication.

I like love the idea of paras learning languages.

I think for language learning in order for us to be able to distinguish multiple languages there should be some type of marker or trait we can pick in DAP saying so if we can’t get the different accents for each language. Similar to a nationality marker almost. But I think it’d be fun not to have real life language names but some new made up ones that are equivalent to real languages?

So when other paras meet or greet each other they may not understand due to their language barriers so a pop up could appear saying (using a real world language as example) “Hailey has met a French para, would she like to learn her language? Try to translate?” Which then could increase her skill in this language.

I think it would be great if we could distinguish between languages based on their sound. For example, It’s not likely you’ll get Russian and French confused, since the sounds of the languages are very different. However, I’d like to have a note on the Para either way, saying which languages they speak. Like how in the Sims 4 you can “Get to know” another sim and their traits will appear on their character, a Para could “ask about language” or recognise the language being spoken if they have skill in the language, adding that language as a note.
