Paralives Hub Forums General Ideas Grunge and disrepair

This is just my personal wish for Paralives, certainly not something for the launch, but maybe, just maybe, a few DLCs after that.

I’d like to be able to have buildings that have fallen into disrepair. Homes that are neither clean nor spotless. Perhaps a leaky roof that needs a bucket under the leak during rain to collect the water. Old walls with a layer of grime at the bottom and on the corners. Torn wallpapers. Holes. Peeling paint. Matted, scratched, and broken floor and wall tiles. Rusty bathtubs and sinks. Missing pieces of wainscotting. Windows with cracked panes. Windows with panes gone and replaced by cardboard. Rugs with holes in them. Threadbare upholstery and window curtains. Crooked cupboards and wardrobes with doors not closing properly. Partially broken, patched up furniture. Muted, faded, greyed out colors…

Not asking for filth, cockroaches and stench of urine everywhere, though! No. I’d like homes for paras that are poor, that earn just enough to keep the roof over their heads and their bellies semi-full. That have no money to buy shiny new furniture, to repaint the walls or wax the floors, and just have to make do with what they have.

Building beautiful, colorful, shiny new mansions is great, don’t get me wrong, but creating old and battered homes and making them comfy and cozy despite the disrepair would be an amazing challenge. And an additional touch of realism, too.

Tip of my hat to Rainbowdust’s Poor/homeless life in paralives thread that gave me the courage to actually share this idea with everyone here.

  • Love all your ideas. I don’t like building mansions right from the start. My sims usually have a humble beginning and work their way up (hopefully not too fast) to better living. Sometimes it takes generations to get that mansion, if ever – depending on my story.

  • I’d definitely like to have something like this to be in the game. It’d give a different perspective in gameplay with the challenges paras would face and would add some realism to homes and neighborhoods. Because just like the real world not every neighborhood is perfect.

  • I think this is something the game needs in order to tell certain stories. Plus, even if I’m not playing a rags to riches story, a little disrepair in my house can make it feel more lived in.

  • Sci-fi, Urban, grunge and abandoned decay is my favorite themes…and i love playing in these surroundings. something that has been pretty much impossible in sims 4. It is to neat.
    So Im on to that!!!
It is a popular subject if you remember sims 3. In TSR Cyclonesue dedicatet most of her CC to factoriers, decay, urban ect. and she has today over 42 million downloads..so this lot speaks for itself!

Not embarrassing, took me a while to figure it out, too! 😉 Go to the forum section where you want to post (for example General Discussion) and scroll to the very bottom of the page. You can make a new topic there.

    Hope this helps!
