Paralives Hub Forums Gameplay & Simulation Decay and Fullfilling Paras Needs

  • Decay and Fullfilling Paras Needs

    Profile Photo

So I had been writing and thinking about this for the last week and a half and wondered if and what kind of needs paras will have.

What are some everyone would like to see? Both, the emotional and physical health needs,

    Health,Sleep,and Hunger Needs

I was talking with others on discord about there not being a drinking need (not alcohol lol) but like water or juice, and she was like yeah “idk how sims ever made it without ever drinking a glass of water” lol. So I think it’d be cool if paras would be able to have this because there’s another game I played that’s a survival game called ‘7 days to die’. where you have to keep up both your hunger and thirst or you will die, either by starvation or dehydration. So we suggested having a water bottle around that paras can carry in their inventory they’d automatically drink from it themselves but players would need to make sure they have it filled or at least have another beverage in their inventory. I wouldn’t mind either if paras just went and autonomously got their own drinks and water and drank. I think it’d be nice to have this because then other things could be introduced that paras can buy. Such as sodas different types of juice/juice boxes, tea etc. from stores.

Which could affect their moods or give them mood buffs, energy, and new traits like sweet tooth, fast food junkie, Java addict, etc.

    General Needs

As far as needs in general I hope it’s easy to fulfill their needs but it takes a longer time for them to decay. like water and food for instance. I think it’d be nice if sleep declined depending on the time of day it is, so if a morning para is up at 10 pm they’d lose the sleep needs more around 8pm rather than a night owl who’d begin to lose sleep needs around 1-2am.

Another thing that always bugged me in sims was that water and snack foods fulfilled the overall hunger need, which I hope is the opposite of this in Paralives. I was thinking snacks would only fill paras 25-30% of their hunger vs regular food. Though if a para ate a lot of snacks it could fill them up but they’d quickly become hungry again later on.

    Energy and sleep

I think they should be separate from each other. My view on this is a based on real life, I can sleep 4 hours sometimes and still have energy to go to work and make it the rest of the day, no it’s not healthy but I think they should contradict each other, rather than have it that they have to be working synonymously. So it’d be interesting to see in paras and this could easily go back to tying in with food and drinks, if they’re sleep deprived a para can drink coffee or a sugary drink giving paras energy even if their sleep need is low.

    Emotional Needs

I’d like to be a little complex rather than it just be a ‘social’ need, I think it should work depending on their personalities, ages, hobbies, regular activities they’d like to do and the relationships they have and it vary day to day. As I mentioned below I think social and fun needs should go together. I would like it if social didn’t decay quickly especially just after one day. I feel they should decline around day 3.

I’m still thinking on social needs and emotional needs but if anyone has suggestions add them below 🙂

  • I’m OK with the current needs that the sims have. I feel that if we break the needs down too detailed then that’s what we’ll end up doing most of the while we’re in the game. If we have 8-10 paras in the household, then trying to fulfill all their needs would not leave much time for work, play, hobbies, relationships, etc.

    • That’s understandable I was thinking that too, that’s why I’d like it to be autonomously done by paras but idk if it’s possible to implement that some type of internal timer

  • i think that they shouldn’t automatically have a water bottle but you can buy them (or a reusable coffee cup or something) in build/buy mode

    • I didn’t even think about that but that would be good that would actually be better buying this in stores 🙂 I kind of would like it to be automatic like paras would do it on their own though and we wouldn’t have to direct them to buy, so the only thing we would choose would be the kind of beverages option if I’m making sense ?. But I wouldn’t mind directing them to buy beverages .

  • I only ever played one game in that other series for a short period, so I don’t remember how the needs worked all too much to make the best comparison. However, I do think it would be nice to get a hunger and a hydration need in Paralives only because it’s more realistic. I would like for some needs to be based around age if possible. Like, baby and toddler Paras would require less food, but more sleep. I also agree with you that snacks and drinks shouldn’t count toward hunger (except milk/formula for babies).

If it were up to me, I think the major needs would probably be something like: Hunger-Hydration-Sleep/Energy-Bathroom.

As for the emotional side, I personally don’t think that should work towards major needs, to the point that if they get too low it effects their well being. Like the social example you gave, I think that should just be something on the side that could only be necessary based on their personality. And I believe in the other game there was a need for “fun”. I hope that if Paralives does something similar, it’s also something on the side and not anything that will harm the Paras well being.

And of course, however needs end up being done, it would be nice to have a cheat to disable all or some needs for players who don’t want too much to worry about.

    • I agree I’d definitely want some needs to be based on age that’s what I had in mind as well for emotional needs bc a teens needs would be different from adult and adult from elder. I just don’t know what they would be, if you get more ideas for them list them I’d love to see what everyone thinks on that! 🙂 Yes it’d be not a major need but how aspiration would work but a fresh take on it so based on their life choices and circumstances they go through like physical overall health I’d like to see that too but it wouldn’t be a major need requirement.

the social needs from sims is what I was basing it off and how it wouldn’t be decayed so quickly like it was in my experience. I don’t want them to die of loneliness if it gets really low. But it’d work more complex in keeping it stagnant so ex. 3 day no contact with other paras wouldn’t really decrease it. I need to go back and edit the post I was in a hurry wanting to get it up lol.

I think social and fun should go together and not be separated like in sims.

  • only if we can get ice capped or a slushee/Slurrpee/Thirst Buster kind of drink as item for them to use

    • Yes! And coffee should give them a big boost of energy without filling up their bladder so quickly.

    • Definitely! Frappuccino like Starbucks too please ?

  • One thing I didn’t like in sims was that they took an hour to use the bathroom, or to eat-stuff that would not take up most of the short days they seem to have. The bathroom could even be a rabbit hole if need be. some things you just don’t need to see lol.

They spent so much time on their basic needs (and homework) that they didn’t have time for social stuff. Water you can sip on all day in your to go cup.

    • I agree I hope it takes them 3 seconds to go then they go wash their hands and get out! ?

Im really curious about the eating though how long it’ll take and if it will vary in time depending on age like elders for example eat slower on average. I hope they get different eating styles as some suggested too!
