Double Lives: What do you think?
What if Parafolk could lead double lives? I think it would lend for some interesting game play. Some examples:
More than one family: A Para living with partner and children. Often lies to family that he/she needs to go on business trips, but in reality he/she has a whole other family that he/she tells similar lies to. The Para would have two houses and as a player you could choose where the Para spends her/his time. Affairs also fall under this category.
Illegal Activity: In the eyes of most, a Para could be an honest and upstanding citizen, but at night he/she goes out and engages in illegal activity. Of course, the type of activity depends on what would be allowed for Teen rating. But I am thinking of things like drug dealing, money laundering, theft etc.
Secret Cult: I personally don’t like representation of real life religion and cults in simulation games as it is not inclusive, usually is not done 100% correct and it can offend certain people. So Parafolk could be leading or member of a secret group of people that do activities together. How the group functions and what the group does would be up to the player.
Whether a Para leads a double life or not should be a choice. If the player makes the Para lie a lot about whereabouts and activity and makes them have secrets, the game will prompt the question if the player wants the Para to live a double life. Which will lead to options to purchase a second house, sneak out of the house etc.
Naturally, all of this would require that Parafolk would have the ability to lie and/or hide things. And it would also require that Parafolk can ask each other where they are going or what they are up to. This is a whole other game play piece to consider.
