What if Parafolk could lead double lives? I think it would lend for some interesting game play. Some examples:

More than one family: A Para living with partner and children. Often lies to family that he/she needs to go on business trips, but in reality he/she has a whole other family that he/she tells similar lies to. The Para would have two houses and as a player you could choose where the Para spends her/his time. Affairs also fall under this category.

Illegal Activity: In the eyes of most, a Para could be an honest and upstanding citizen, but at night he/she goes out and engages in illegal activity. Of course, the type of activity depends on what would be allowed for Teen rating. But I am thinking of things like drug dealing, money laundering, theft etc.

Secret Cult: I personally don’t like representation of real life religion and cults in simulation games as it is not inclusive, usually is not done 100% correct and it can offend certain people. So Parafolk could be leading or member of a secret group of people that do activities together. How the group functions and what the group does would be up to the player.

Whether a Para leads a double life or not should be a choice. If the player makes the Para lie a lot about whereabouts and activity and makes them have secrets, the game will prompt the question if the player wants the Para to live a double life. Which will lead to options to purchase a second house, sneak out of the house etc.

Naturally, all of this would require that Parafolk would have the ability to lie and/or hide things. And it would also require that Parafolk can ask each other where they are going or what they are up to. This is a whole other game play piece to consider.

  • As long as it’s optional and can be programed properly, I don’t see why this couldn’t be a thing.

The only one that kind of makes me curious is the criminal one. Because I don’t see how a Para could be regarded as an upstanding citizen, but also they’re doing crimes on the side. Wouldn’t that make them to be viewed in a negative light? I guess it depends if there’s some sort of reputation system and how it could be done.

    • @bailey I am also for optional. I would not want all my Parafolk to live like this. I would like to see that Parafolk form opinions about each other based on what they know and experience. Take for example a Para who engages in illegal activity, a drug lord. His/her family, friends and coworkers of a Para regard him/her as a “good Para” based on his/her behavior when around them. When he/she secretly goes out to do illegal things he/she meets up with the group of Paras he/she works with, they see him/her as the tough drug lord. I know it is complicated and could probably not be realized.

      • @Breedmond Okay, that makes sense. So the Paras they’re nice to would view them positively, but those they engage in harmful activites with would view them negatively. I suppose that shouldn’t be too hard to program.

  • I would like to be able to have the opportunity for my paras live double lives or even commit identity theft in game. Another user and I on discord were discussing this a couple days ago about having it in game whether it be a para being able to keep their original name after PAM but have the option to “change” their identities and deceive others somehow. Mainly we were talking having this more for criminal activities, but even just normal day living would be nice. Maybe they want to start over and have a clean break or maybe they do have secrets they want to leave behind. But would also like if paras could find out the active para took on a new identity while others wouldn’t notice but they’d be affected. Either by trying to call them or missing them or wondering what happened to them, etc

Hmm cults and secret societies would be interesting I keep thinking about these based on other games like The Council or Vampire the Masquerade (would be a cool modern vampire coven btw lol). I think if we have them I’d not want it to be easy to join but also in ways you wouldn’t expect either. Like maybe a para comes up to you one day and says some weird funny coded sentence “ Have you seen the crows? they’ve been looking for their magnify glass”. Would you want them as rabbit hole locations or for it to be a real location we can visit? What would be required of paras to remain a member of a cult/secret society and what would you like to see affecting gameplay?

    • @cakeefeatured I would like to have the option to choose when I go to the cult meeting with the Parafolk. I have not really thought the idea of the cults through. But I would not want it to be rigid. The player should be free to be creative with it

  • I remember reading in (a book from Bathrooom readers series) that a man had two lives in the same town under 2 different names. The so-called “wives” didn’t know anything until I think the guy’s funeral when the wives and half-siblings meet and most ironic is the fact that School used (one name) of the double-crossing husband which was near a baseball diamond which was named after the same guy only with the other name

  • I personally really want secrets that could parafolks keep from each other. If a husband has a secret lover, lover shouldn’t just come to husband and start flirting with him. Secrets should be treated as secrets by game, if it is really possible.
