I’ve seen a lot of people mentioning eras or fantasy worlds and personally I’ve always wanted to be able to create worlds that would fit a story telling without having random townies spawn ruining the setting (like making a medieval world and ending up with cars and phone and such). So my idea for this would be to be able to create personalized settings through the create-a-world tool (with possibility to open and load other worlds that are already created to modify the settings also if we wanted). This settings could be a bit in-depth, with for example the option to chose the weather patterns, the temperature range, the spawning frequencies, ect. And as for the idea of eras (or fantasy world for story telling) I think the objects and some building functions could be set with a ‘style category’ when created, and the settings of the world would allow you to enable or disable said styles to use to build your world but also to dictate what is allowed later on in this game by townies or families you create alike to avoid the use of inappropriate objects (and using the same ideas for occults later on) . Also, to fit these fantasy world, it would be nice to see some more uncommon or out-there weather pattern, such as acid/ashes rain that could affect the characters and/or objects in some ways.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Have a nice day, and thanks to Alex for all the efforts he puts in this game and for being open to suggestions from the community!

Ps: Edited for the new categories of the discord and because of the article from JP about the heights (Keep up the good work!)

  • For the CAW: absolutely yes, please! The CAW tool is a bless for ts3 and the main reason alongside the lack of style creation and open world, why I’ve not even touched ts4.

Due to my experience of messing a lot with CAW tool in ts3, I’d like to suggest the following features with addition to the features already existed in the Sims’ version:
    • a multilayered world. By this, I mean it would be possible to create floating cities like Laputa above the existing cities, roads/bridges crossing the functioning buildings and to have the underground world, for example.
    • functioning pond/lake tool. Ever tried to place any kind of water outside the lots and above the sea level in ts3 CAW? Fortunately, there finally exists the proper water plane CC to be used but before it, it was absolutely pain in the a**.
    • flyovers and versalite road infrastructure system including highways, one-way roads etc.
    • the ability to build anything under water
    • the cave tool. Same kind of mechanics as in the terrain tools but working vertically
    • the ability to rescale and change the colour of the deco objects
    • the ability to change the colour of flora
    • the easy tool to manipulate .ini files (the colour of sunsets, sea water, weather effects, clouds and so on)
    • as mentioned earlier, the ability to turn off modern era’s inventions like electricity and cars or replace them by steam engines or horse wagons, instead
    • the tool to create a functioning public transport system. The Zephyr train is neat in ts3 but pretty difficult to replace to any custom worlds.

I’d definetly buy this as a separated dlc.

I agree for more options for the tools themselves, but I just wanted to mention the settings idea because I never could really create a world with the stories I wanted to do (in the sims 3 for example, even if you wouldn’t put road and other families in the world, the sims would still spawn and look super out of place :D)

  • as for the phone problem, how about a phone is something in your inventory rather than already built in so that you actually have to buy one and giving your children a phone is optional? Because in the sims 4, i always felt a little weird that i didn’t get a phone but a kid that looked younger than me automatically got one.

  • I agree on the matter of heights. Having 3 or so animations sets for different heights would give variety and not be as overwhelming as a slider.

    Preach!

I love this entire thread — I hope there’ll be a way to fully create our own worlds, with their own specific time periods (medieval, futuristic, fanciful, etc) and even cultures/lifestyles (living off the grid with little to no electricity or modern inventions; dystopian where everything’s going/gone to heck; or an edenic utopia like the Elysian Fields, etc).

One thing I always wished for was a way to set out own lot moodlet types in build/edit mode in TS3. IIRC, CAW has a way to set the Beautiful Vista moodlet for parks and beaches and such, but what I would like in Paralives is a way to click a specific lot and say this lot has or is:

    • Idyllic/Rural/Pastoral: replete with lush foliage, calming winds and sweet scents in the air; ambient sounds of birds chirping or water rushing
    • Creepy/Haunted/Spooky/Scary: chilling mist and fog, unsettling sounds (owls, bats, wolves, bones rattling, ghosts moaning, people screaming)
    • Harsh/Wasteland: scorching wings and arid temperatures (if a desert); biting winds and subzero temps (if a tundra); acid rain, toxic waste, smog, etc
    • Metropolitan: teeming with activity, a commercial hub, hustle and bustle, ambient noise pollution, air pollution/smog

But based on a ParaFolk’s traits and personality types, they might love that kind of lot’s environment, or hate it, and react accordingly. Take a cemetery, for instance. Some PFolk might e Cowardly or Easily Spooked or whatever, and hate anything having to do with death. So even though your Metropolitan!Cemetery is well maintained in the middle of a city, and is not a Scary!Lot by default, the PFolk still gets creeped out being there.

Likewise, you might have a Goth sim who Hates the Outdoors or something, so if they go to an Idyllic!Lot they’ll e miserable the entire time. A tech savvy computer geek time traveller might hate the rustic charm of Idyllic!Lots, while ludites hate being on a Metropolitan!Lot with too much noise pollution from cars and people talking on their phones and tvs and radios always on.

Or if it’s a wasteland, certain PFolk will react differently, based on their survival skills and traits.

    Something like that. IDK

Oh sorry, I always get overhyped when somebody mentions the CAW tool. Good points! I love how the Sims 3 have different worlds but the devs should have considered more careful the details. The common cars in Lunar Lakes and Dragon Valley look so awkward. >_>

Oh yes please for this (alongside all that you listed)! I’m so jealous of those lot traits in the Sims 4 (dying to build my own the Grudge house for my Kajako and her son). :< But instead of one, could there be multiple traits/moodlets/whatever-it-will-be-called to be chosen for a single lot or building?

  • *I’m very late to answer, been quite busy I’m sorry!*

I do agree that cars where so out of places in some world, along with phones or even clothing and such, hence why I’d love to see in-depth settings for it.

As for the moodlets and such, I think it could be such a cute idea and really make it interesting!

  • Yes i really would love to have the ability to create a world to fit my “needs” as example a dark Victorian or medieval world with the houses and weather to fit more in this world. In medieval times for example they didn’t have cars electricity and modern items, needs and behavior. they had horses, candles etc. So it would be nice if we can turn off some things like cars etc. and also not to have Parafolks in this worlds from the game, but to full the world with our created characters who will really fit in this world, i really don’t like to see in a medieval world that i have create and all is from this Era, to see in some point some Parafolks to walk with the modern clothes and hairstyles in the road or to be in the park, or to run with their car! Vampires will fit great in Victorian times and if we can manipulate the weather etc, then we can have a dark world with no so sunny days, the day time will be some hours only and the night time will be bigger. Also to include chilling mist and fog and some cemeteries, bats, wolfs, owls, sounds and effects.

  • This is such a good idea! So you could set the climate, technology use, amount of spawned paras, maybe even the jobs they get. I love the idea of Influencing the culture. Like in one world paras are nocturnal or something idk. If we could create more than just the landscape of the world and actually influence the gameplay of that world, I would use the CAW tool as I’m not really a builder but building a world customized to my gameplay style would be a dream come true!

This also makes me hope you can visit different worlds per save file but that’s a different discussion.

Thanks for the feedback! Visiting different worlds is pretty hard to code, but I’d love to be able to without moving in these worlds and losing everything. Though, I know it would be a pain to program so I don’t hope too much. I’d already like if we could go in vacation in different worlds even if we can’t affect the world directly in that save.

  • I think everybody has really good ideas, i’m amazed by your creativity guys but maybe you’re asking too much XD but maybe a Caw would be a great tool for the base game and maybe bring new options in add-on like maybe in a magical world add-on it would be possible to add a tool for floating lands, maybe in a ocean life add-on we could have a tool for building under the sea, or in a “back to the future” add-on a tool for setting the technology level etc etc…. I think if we ask too much we might be disappointed and the poor guy will never end the dev of the game, and our computers will explode ahahah

  • Hey! The create a world tool is already confirmed, so giving ideas about it doesn’t hurt!
Also, it is fairly obvious that some ideas would be harder to implement than others, but it doesn’t mean people can’t propose them 🙂
Alex will be the one deciding whether or not he thinks he can make it, or even want it in the game. Sharing an idea doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, but it is still good to have feedback from the community, regardless of how hard that idea could be 🙂

All in all, as long as everyone understand that it might not make it in the game, it’s all good!

Also, there is a list of what features are confirmed on the wiki page, if you are interested in checking it out 🙂

  • I’d really like to be able to create and experiement with different terrains and their heights in CAW. I have no idea how to really explain this but like for instance making a mountainious reigon that flows into a suburb or city but it feels more natural and not like sims where it was like you are here now you’re there in a blink of an eye. But I guess smoother transitions? Having the flexibilty to make different neighborhoods and houses on terrain levels/heights, like cliff side houses (like santorini, greece.)
Being able to create tunnels that go into terrains including rail systems (either working or decoration)
Being able to create neighborhoods on water/piers like Venice,Italy.
Creating alleyways that allow bikes, scooters, and paras to travel through.
Being able to travel by ferry from one side of the world to another.
Ambient sounds depending on the type of world. For example if you live in a city there would be more sounds of cars, cars honking, sirens, and other noise that comes with living in a big city.
More natural elements like waterfalls and lakes, ponds. That would allow paras to swim in these.
Having more control over the roads like they can be curved, create winding roads, or steep hills like youre going up a mountain.
Creating sidewalks anywhere which includes having sidewalks flow into a roundabout type neighborhood.
Backwood and rural areas you’d hear more animal sounds, insects, and bird calls echoing.
Being able to build forests and allowing paras to be able to hike, walk trails, bike on the trails, and even forage plants.
This one is probably farfetched but what if the longer you play in the world and the longer a house has been built in the world, you would see houses age? And have houses that are abandoned slowly become desolate and eerie looking (vines growing, yards overgrown, wood and stone losing its color)

  • Yes! That would be awesome!

  • I am not a builder by any stretch of the imagination, but I would love these features in the game because then you can build and I can download – everybody’s happy!

  • On my part, I‘d be absolutely fullfilled if Alex and the Team came to incorporate similar mechanics to the Create-A-Paraworld Tool as can be found in Cities Skylines. I‘m talking Streets of different sizes, Busses, Metros, Trains, Trams, whole Network systems! I‘d love to see my Paras reaching city centre on transportation modes as many people do in modern european cities.
