Collectibles.
Posted by Francisco on July 5, 2020 at 10:00 pmWe all know that the other simulation game … you know …. that SIMulation game.
Well, that game has collectibles, the gnomes being something of the most iconic. I think that a variant of collectibles for this game could be relics or crafts that are in the different cultures of the world.
I don’t know, small objects based on monuments around the world, whether they are replicas of the objects or something like small snow spheres, you know, those crystal balls with figures inside.
I think they are a good idea, they are collectible, they are more special and they better convey the message of diversity that they want to evoke.

It kind of oversimplifies and commodifies real world cultures, it turns them into a novelty prize, and implies that Paralives is an America simulator that others all other cultures. I suspect this will open the real cultures v. fictional cultures debate (again). In that regard I don’t know where I fall, because I can’t see a good solution to the culture issue. I’m probably overreacting in any case because real people take home souvenirs in this fashion all the time, but my gut reaction is no. Keep thinking, I’m sorry for being so negative, I just happen to feel strongly on this issue.

ParafolkJuly 6, 2020 at 2:24 amPicture PerfectLoyalty BadgeFriendship BadgeTrendsetter BadgeHub Points940Well, I understand that they will put more things in relation to cultural diversity, I just thought of this option as an “additional” collectible. Undoubtedly I would agree that it would be something basic to include only in relation to the subject.
The idea is that such collectibles are found throughout the progress of the game, moving up in professions, mastering skills or something like that, not buying them. I do not know, I could still think of another option, I still appreciate your comment, I think you present a good point.

Honestly, the idea of collectables in a life sim seems a bit odd to me. It doesn’t seem to fit the genre, but maybe that’s just me.
I wouldn’t mind them adding snow globes based off of in-game cultural elements (depending on how Paralives handles their world and the cultures within), that actually sounds cool. I just don’t know how I feel about it being part of a collection aspect.

Star HubkinJuly 10, 2020 at 8:58 amPicture PerfectLoyalty BadgeFriendship BadgeAppreciation BadgeTrendsetter BadgeDiamond EggHub Points24863I’ve never been a collector but it would be nice to be able to buy a souvenir from a trip and have that mean something – the para could look at it and think about all the wonderful memories, etc. Photographs of the trip would work as well.

Rising HubkinJuly 10, 2020 at 9:11 amPicture PerfectLoyalty BadgeFriendship BadgeTrendsetter BadgeDiamond EggHub Points1636I like the idea of collecting different things. And not just when you go to different cultural places around the world but also when you are just outside, on a walk or beach or anywhere really (outside or inside of paras hometown). I think this is a really simple way to relax, just glide around the world and look at what your paras could collect and maybe after they would have collected some items of a certain collection (souvenirs, plants, shells, bones (like skulls and other animal bones), books, coins…) they would also get into a positive mood. And they could be really happy if somebody gave them something they collect and it would improve their relationship.

Noteworthy NewcomerJuly 21, 2020 at 9:15 amPicture PerfectLoyalty BadgeHub Points403Also would be interested if we have NFT’s, Non Fungible Tokens in game. For those who are curious, these are in game items which we individually own. We could trade and exchange these stuff. Collectible and adds fun and playability.

Seasoned HubkinJuly 21, 2020 at 3:25 pmLoyalty BadgeFriendship BadgeTrendsetter BadgeHub Points3018People collect things in real life, so arguably collectibles do have a place in a life sim game.
I think I’d like to see them treated more like actual objects that a parafolk can have the hobby of collecting though. Like stuffed toys or teapots. That way your parafolk can decide to be a collector of whatever items they want that are part of the game. (maybe your parafolk is an avid hot tub collector)
Personally collectibles in a “gamey” type fashion don’t interest me as much. I think it would be more fun if it was integrated in a more “real life collecting” type of way.
I’m thinking the hobby would let you select what types of object your parafolk wants to collect. I think it could be another interesting quirk that parafolk could have if some of them have different things they like to collect.
