I don’t think something like this exists in the sims games, but I would love if within Paramaker, we could create a couple…..then create their offspring…..and then set both or one of the parents as dead.

A lot of times in the sims I’ve wanted to create storylines where one of the parents are dead but the way create a sim works you have to leave it so they don’t even have that parent at all. (which just looks wrong)

I know you could just create their parent and THEN kill them off but I’d rather be able to set all of this up as a backstory right from the paramaker.

I think it would be great if we could set a para in the paramaker as deceased so that they would only appear in the family tree and not as part of the household.

(maybe as an extension of this idea you could set the para as “abandoned” rather than dead, and it would just mean that they walked out on their family, maybe this turns them into a townie?)

This is an interesting idea! It kinda puts me in the mind of the movie ‘The Others’, they’re dead but they look alive. Though I’m wondering would they look alive or have that sallow/pale blueish or ghostly white look to their skin, or that ?

I was a bit confused at first when I saw the thread title, but now reading what you said, I can see why this could be useful. I think it it’s not too hard to do,maybe they could include it.

This would be a great option. I always wish the same thing when playing Sims. I often end up making parents or other family members, have them move out. I cannot kill them lol .

I’m a bit conflicted about this. On the one hand this would be very useful and I’ve run into the same problems discussed while creating stories on the sims. On the other I feel like it wouldn’t feel… earned, if I had paras I’d never played on my family tree. I treat my family tree as a source of pride, a display of my family line and the time and commitment I put into making it grow. If I had fake ancestors in that family tree I think I would feel as though I’d cheated.

i’m pretty sure you would have the option to set them as being deceased. I also follow your playstyle and i like to look at my family tree with pride. it’s a good idea though if i’m creating a Para for one of my other Para’s as a spouse.Slight Smile

They could make it so by default you can only create one tier of dead sims on the family tree (and then make that limit moddable through the modding tools they were talking about)

I don’t think it would be a big deal personally. In the sims we can already create supernatural sims in cas without “earning” them. Also just the fact that you feel like you were cheating would likely mean that you’d hold off from doing it.

Personally I see it more like a “create a backstory” tool than cheating.

I meant creating parafolk that have already passed away so they become part of the family tree without joining your household.

(I hope they add occult paras to the game one day, but this isn’t an occult suggestion)

I like this idea because I like knowing my para’s history. It would also be nice to know if a para was adopted by possibly having their picture in the family tree a different color (hope that makes sense).

Do you think we should be able to see the birth parents on an adopted Para’s family tree? Also, if fostering is in the game, how would that show on the tree? Thinking

Haven’t really thought about that. I’m not sure I would want to go that deeply into the family tree. I supposed maybe if we hover over their picture in the family tree the names could show (no picture; that would be too cluttered).

I like this idea, it would be very useful for story-oriented players. It would make it simpler to put a para in your world that has a little bit of history rather than just being a completely blank slate. We could even have the option to set relationships between the paras we’ve just created and paras that are already in the world to integrate them into the the area a bit better and make it feel like they had a life there (if the dead paras come from that town, that is). If people don’t want to bother making these deceased paras, we could have several options to explain their backstory in a quicker way like, as you said, setting them as “abandoned” or “unknown parents” or “run-away para”, things like that. However, all this would be optional of course, being able to start with blank slates wouldn’t always be a bad thing.
