Paralives Hub Forums Paralives Discussion A Question about Different Cultures

  • A Question about Different Cultures

I was wondering about Cultures is it going to have real world cultures or something different? This is out of curiosity; I do like the idea of giving the game different cultures and ethnicities 🙂 I remember Alex said about having different elements of cultures and ethnicities. (Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question.)

We don’t know about that yet, but personally, i wouldn’t like real-world cultures because i absolutely disagree with the European/Western culture the Sims is clinging on to. a lot of cultures are misrepresented and there would be controversy about which are the more “important” or “popular” cultures and that would be ugly. So i’d prefer made up cultures!

Wait did the sims had some problems and misrepresented some cultures? I haven’t heard about it can you tell about what happen?

  • Alex has confirmed that there will be elements of cultures, but didn’t state if they’d be real world or fictional. I feel he’ll incorporate minor things from real world cultures (like kimonos or hijabs), and other cosmetic things but won’t call specific countries or ethnicity by name. I think that would be the best thing to do.

With regard to gameplay, I think the game should create their own fictional cultures if any since, as I mentioned in another thread, if you include some, but not all (and there’s no way to include all), people will get upset at not being included.

  • I think it would be interesting if, in addition to the game offering some pre-made fictional cultures, players could make up their own custom cultures.

One thing that I think would be cool to see is differences in what is considered polite from one culture to the next. In real life, various cultures differ on things like table manners, formality with strangers, and how visitors and hosts behave. I wonder what that would look like in-game if such a mechanism were to be implemented.

  • I think it should be something like: they made up cultures but it took things from real life cultures like some people foods from different cultures than others like a made up type of the actual food like instead of noodles thy ate something that looked like noodles but its name was completely made up and fictional instead of making whole new cultures. like mixing fiction with the real thing .

probem is people want actuallty food from the various cultures for instance I want to have Kimchi in the game- I wouldn’t like it if it was under a faker name-. The sims don’t make up fake names for stuff like Pho, or egg/spring rolls or curry so why should Paralives do any different?

  • I don’t have the information with me at the moment- but in the New Year’s Eve Post and picture- Roxanne used the English names for the various food on the table shrimp, cupcakes- baguette, cheese

  • I like calling foods/dishes by their real name. I think you can find just about anything anywhere nowadays, so foods/dishes are not necessarily tied to any country (other than origination).
